Pure linen or blend

The shirts, drawstring trousers, shorts and sets here are titled 'linen'. The two mandarin-collar shirts are cotton. As a general rule, pure linen breathes best and creases most; a linen-cotton blend creases less and feels softer. Check the title before you buy if the fibre matters to you.

Shirt or set

A shirt on its own works with chinos or shorts. The shirt-and-trousers sets, and the shirt-and-shorts set, are the no-decision option: shirt and bottom are already in matching tones.

Sleeve length

Wearing linen for a day

Expect creases by lunchtime. They are part of the look, and they relax once the garment is worn in. Steam rather than iron, or accept them: linen looks wrong only when it is half-pressed.

General guidance: wash cool, do not tumble dry, hang to dry. The care label on your piece takes precedence.

Sets versus separates

Buying the set guarantees matching tones; buying separately lets you choose a darker trouser under a white shirt. Both routes use the same pieces, so the choice is about colour, not quality.
