About Men's Knitwear

Men's knitwear for every week of the cold season: wool and cashmere jumpers, half-zips, cardigans and turtlenecks that go over a shirt or stand alone. Choose by fibre first, then by collar. For the full autumn-winter picture including coats, see our Autumn / Winter Edit.

How to choose men's knitwear

By fibre

The titles in this range name four fibres: pure wool, merino wool, cashmere (pure and cashmere-wool blend) and cotton knit, plus a viscose-blend turtleneck and a wool-blend diamond knit. As a general rule, wool is the sturdy all-rounder, cashmere the softest, and cotton knit the easiest to wash and the lowest-priced. Where a title says 'blend', the product page carries the detail.

By collar and closure

Half-zip: quick to adjust, sits well over a shirt collar. Polo jumper (button placket, folded collar): the smartest of the group. Crewneck: the plainest, best under a coat. Turtleneck and mock neck: warmest at the neck. Full-zip and zip cardigan: easiest to take off indoors.

By how you wear it

Over a shirt for the office, alone for weekends. A ribbed half-zip with a structured collar is the most flexible single piece; a cashmere polo jumper is the one to dress up with trousers and loafers; the cashmere hoodie is cut relaxed, for weekends.

Sizing knitwear

Knit has more give than woven cloth, so size by the fit you want rather than chest measurement alone. Titles that say 'slim fit' or 'tailored fit' (the cashmere-wool turtleneck, the viscose-blend turtleneck) are meant to sit close; if you plan to wear a shirt underneath, consider your usual size and check the collar height. Relaxed cuts need your usual size.

Caring for knits

General guidance, not product-specific: wash wool and cashmere cold on a wool cycle or by hand, reshape and dry flat, and fold rather than hang. Cotton knit is more forgiving. The care label on each piece takes precedence over this page.

What the women's range has

Women's turtlenecks, a cashmere-wool cardigan and a cable-knit half-zip sit in women's knitwear.

FAQ
Half-zip or crewneck over a collared shirt?

The half-zip, if the shirt collar is stiff enough to stand inside its stand collar. A soft collar tends to bunch. A crewneck works over a thin button-down shirt if you keep the collar out of view.

I commute by bike in damp weather. Which knit should I pick?

A pure wool or merino half-zip, worn under a jacket: the zip lets you vent on the climb, and wool is the usual choice for damp air. Keep cashmere for office days.

Which pieces here are cut slim, and do I need to size up?

The cashmere-wool turtleneck and the viscose-blend turtleneck are titled 'slim fit' and 'tailored fit'. If you prefer a jumper that skims rather than hugs, take one size up in those two; the ribbed and cable-knit half-zips are not slim-cut.

How do I stop knitwear bobbling under a bag strap?

Bobbles form where fabric rubs. Carry a bag on the shoulder opposite your watch hand so the rub point moves, wash inside out on a gentle cycle, and lift pills off with a fabric comb rather than pulling.

Is the knitwear here for men only?
This collection is menswear, with a women's cable-knit half-zip included. Women's knits sit in women's knitwear.
